Invoice OCR softwareLast updated
Best invoice OCR software in 2026, compared
There is no single best invoice OCR tool; the right one depends on who you are. Bookkeepers capturing receipts, bills and statements for many clients are best served by Dext, or by AutoEntry and Hubdoc at lower prices. Small and mid-size AP teams that need supplier invoices read line by line, checked so the totals add up, and pushed to QuickBooks Online, Xero or Zoho Books should look at InvoiceParser Pro (our product), which has a free plan; DocuClipper is the cheapest paid option at low volume and also converts bank statements. Teams building their own workflows suit Nanonets or Parseur, developers suit Veryfi, documents in fixed layouts suit Docparser, and enterprise AP departments belong with Rossum, ABBYY or Docsumo.
We make InvoiceParser Pro, one of the products on this list. Every other product’s facts were read on its maker’s own website (4 October 2026), and none was tested hands-on for this version. How we compared.
At a glance
Ordered for the buyer most people asking this question are, a small or mid-size business or its bookkeeper, then teams building custom workflows, then enterprises and developers. Within that, products with a free plan or published prices come first.

The list, one by one
1. Dext
Best for: Bookkeepers and small businesses capturing receipts, bills and statements for many clients
Dext is the established choice for bookkeeping capture: receipts, invoices and statements from many clients, sent by phone, email or upload, published to the client’s accounting software.
Pick it if you are a bookkeeping practice capturing mostly receipts and simple bills. If you need every line of a supplier invoice and a check that it adds up, compare the line-item add-on’s cost with the tools below.
Limits: Line-by-line extraction is a paid add-on beyond a small allowance
2. InvoiceParser ProOur product
Best for: Small and mid-size AP teams, bookkeepers and freight operators who need supplier invoices read line by line, checked and pushed to QuickBooks Online, Xero or Zoho Books
InvoiceParser Pro reads supplier invoices from PDFs, scans and phone photos with no templates or training, scores every field High, Medium or Low confidence, checks that the lines, tax and total add up, flags possible duplicates, and pushes approved bills to QuickBooks Online, Xero or Zoho Books. Excel and CSV export is on every plan.
It publishes its own accuracy benchmark with the method and every miss (see “How we compared”), and a free tool converts up to 3 invoices a day to Excel with no sign-up. It is built for freight and logistics AP first: trip numbers on invoices and single lines, and several currencies kept apart.
Limits: Supplier invoices, not receipts and expenses first; no mobile app; no matching to purchase orders; English-language invoices; API on the Scale plan only
3. AutoEntry
Best for: Accountants and businesses on Sage, Xero or QuickBooks who want low-cost capture with unlimited users
AutoEntry, from Sage, captures invoices, receipts and statements and posts them to the main accounting packages. An invoice costs 1 credit, or 2 with line items, and every plan has unlimited users.
Pick it for cheap, simple capture, especially if your books are in Sage.
Limits: Credits are spent faster on line items and statements; capture rather than an approval workflow
4. Hubdoc
Best for: Xero and QuickBooks Online users who want simple bill and receipt capture
Hubdoc, owned by Xero, collects bills and receipts from email, upload, scanners and phones and syncs them to Xero or QuickBooks Online.
Pick it if you are on Xero and want the simplest, cheapest capture.
Limits: Simple capture: header data rather than a full line-by-line read and arithmetic check
5. DocuClipper
Best for: Small businesses and bookkeepers converting both invoices and bank statements at low volume
DocuClipper converts bank statements, invoices, receipts and CSVs into QuickBooks, Xero or Excel, priced by the page with unlimited users.
Pick it if bank statements are as big a job for you as invoices.
Limits: Priced per page and unused pages do not carry over; no permanent free plan
6. Parseur
Best for: Teams that receive invoices and other documents by email and want the data sent on to other apps
Parseur turns PDFs, emails and documents into structured data, priced per page, with a small free tier.
Pick it if your invoices arrive by email among other documents and you want them flowing into spreadsheets or other apps.
Limits: Each page is a credit and unused credits expire each period; accounting software reached through connectors
7. Nanonets
Best for: Teams building their own document workflows across many document types
Nanonets is a platform for building AI document workflows out of blocks, paid per block run. It says a typical invoice workflow runs 4 to 6 blocks per document.
Pick it if you have many document types and someone to design the workflow.
Limits: Usage-priced per block run, so the cost per invoice depends on how you build the workflow
8. Docsumo
Best for: Mid-size and enterprise teams in lending, insurance and AP that want document AI with a guided trial
Docsumo is an intelligent document processing platform with pre-trained models for many document types. Its free plan runs 14 days with up to 1,000 pages; paid plans are quoted.
Pick it if you are a mid-size or enterprise team and want to test at volume before talking price.
Limits: No self-serve paid plan or published price
9. Rossum
Best for: Enterprise AP and shared-service teams with ERP integrations
Rossum automates transactional documents for enterprise AP teams, with integrations into the major ERPs and an annual contract.
Pick it if you are an enterprise AP department.
Limits: Enterprise pricing and contract length; more than a small business needs
10. ABBYY FlexiCapture for Invoices
Best for: Large organisations that need capture in the cloud or on their own servers
ABBYY sells enterprise capture: FlexiCapture for Invoices reads line items and tables and can run in ABBYY’s FlexiCapture Cloud or on premises.
Pick it if you need on-premises deployment or are standardising capture across a large organisation.
Limits: Sold through demos and quotes; an enterprise project

11. Veryfi
Best for: Developers building invoice or receipt capture into their own product
Veryfi is an OCR API and mobile capture SDK for developers, charged per document sent to the API, with a free tier of 100 documents a month.
Pick it if you are building capture into your own software.
Limits: An API, not a finished AP workflow; the paid minimum is $500 a month
12. Docparser
Best for: Documents that always arrive in the same few layouts
Docparser extracts data with zonal OCR, pattern recognition and rules you define, with AI help to create the rules.
Pick it if a handful of suppliers send the same layout every month.
Limits: Rules are set up per layout, so many suppliers mean many parsers
What to check before you choose
Every vendor demo looks good on a clean PDF. Run ten of your own invoices through each trial and check:
- Line items: are they included on your plan, or an add-on or a higher credit price?
- Arithmetic: does the tool tell you when the lines, tax and total do not add up, or only copy the numbers?
- Photos and scans: try a phone photo of a crumpled invoice, not just a digital PDF.
- Where the data goes: a direct push to your accounting software, or a spreadsheet you import yourself.
- How it bills: per document, per page, per credit or per block, and what a multi-page invoice costs.
How we compared
- Every fact about another product (what it does, who it is for, its published prices and limits) was read on that product’s own website on 4 October 2026. The pages are listed under each product below. Review sites and other lists were not used as sources.
- The other products were not tested hands-on for this version of the page: nothing here measures how well they read invoices. Where a vendor does not publish a price or a limit, the page says “not published” rather than guessing.
- InvoiceParser Pro’s figures come from its own published benchmark: 181 synthetic test documents run through live production on 3 October 2026, where 96.1% of documents had every key header field right and 98.7% of key header fields were right. The method, every miss and sample documents are on the accuracy benchmark page. It is our test set, not your documents, and it is not compared with any other vendor’s figures.
- We make InvoiceParser Pro, so read our placement with that in mind. The order follows the question this page answers, and every entry, ours included, lists its limits.
- Accuracy figures that vendors publish about their own products are not repeated or compared here: each is measured on different documents in a different way.
- Prices and features change. Confirm them with the vendor before you buy, and if something here is out of date, tell us at support@invoiceparserpro.com and we will correct it.
Questions buyers ask
What is the best invoice OCR software for a small business?
For receipts and bills across many clients, Dext, AutoEntry or Hubdoc. For supplier invoices that need every line read and checked before they reach QuickBooks Online, Xero or Zoho Books, InvoiceParser Pro, which has a free plan for 25 invoices a month. DocuClipper is the cheapest paid option at very low volume.
What is the best software to extract data from PDF invoices into Excel?
Most tools here export to Excel. InvoiceParser Pro exports every line item to Excel on every plan and has a free tool for up to 3 invoices a day with no sign-up; Parseur and DocuClipper also export spreadsheets. For a one-off conversion, our list of free invoice-to-Excel converters compares the free options.
Which invoice OCR has an API with line items?
Veryfi is API-first, with a free tier of 100 documents a month. Nanonets, Docparser and Rossum offer APIs. InvoiceParser Pro has a REST API on its Scale plan, returning header fields and line items.
Is invoice OCR accurate enough to trust?
Accuracy depends on your documents, so test your own. Look for a tool that tells you when it is unsure (field confidence) and checks that the figures add up, so errors are caught at review. InvoiceParser Pro publishes its own benchmark, with the method and every miss, on its accuracy page.
Which tools are for enterprise AP departments?
Rossum (from $18,000 a year), ABBYY FlexiCapture and Docsumo sell to enterprises through demos and quotes, with ERP integrations and longer contracts.
