How do I extract invoice data inside Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor?

For a one-off, attach the invoice to the chat and ask the assistant to turn it into a table; that is the model’s own reading, so check the totals yourself. Attach the invoice
Add the PDF or photo to the chat, in an assistant that accepts files.

Ask for the columns you need
Ask for a table with the supplier, invoice number, date, each line’s description, quantity, unit price and amount, the tax and the total.

Ask it to add up
Ask it to check that the lines add up to the subtotal and that subtotal plus tax equals the total, and to quote the printed figures it used.

Copy it out
Copy the table into a spreadsheet, or ask the assistant for a file if it can make one.
- Everything in the answer, the check included, is the model’s own reading of the page. Compare the totals with the invoice before you rely on them.

Add the server
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste https://api.invoiceparserpro.com/mcp; no sign-in is needed. In Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http invoiceparser-pro https://api.invoiceparserpro.com/mcp. Cursor and VS Code take the same URL in their MCP settings; ChatGPT needs developer mode on a paid ChatGPT plan.

Give it the invoice
Pass an https link to the file, or the file itself as base64 from Claude Code or Cursor, or attach it in ChatGPT. PDFs and photos up to 10 MB; only public https links are downloaded.

Ask for what you need
Ask for a spreadsheet, a math check or the raw data. The assistant calls invoice_to_excel, check_invoice or extract_invoice_data; a slow document comes back with a job id that get_result fetches.

Keep the results
The Excel and CSV links work for 60 minutes without signing in. Without a key, the file and its results are deleted 7 days after upload unless you save them to an account.
What the four tools return
Each tool is a separate call the assistant can choose:
- invoice_to_excel: the header fields, every line item, and download links to an Excel and a CSV file.
- check_invoice: each line’s quantity times unit price, the lines against the subtotal, the tax against its printed rate and the total, with a one-line verdict and every problem in the invoice’s own numbers.
- extract_invoice_data: the whole reading as JSON, with a confidence grade for the document and each field.
- get_result: fetches a document that was still being read when the first call returned.
The free trial, and using a key
Without a key the server runs a small free trial: up to 3 documents a day per network address, inside a shared monthly budget. Claude.ai and ChatGPT call from their own servers, so everyone using them shares those addresses, and the day’s allowance can already be used up; the answer says so and when it is back.
Every paid plan (Starter, Team and Scale) can create an AI assistant key. With it, documents go into your workspace’s review queue and count against your plan’s monthly invoices; prices do not change. A client that can send an Authorization header, such as Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, can use the key.

What the server does not do
- It has no OAuth sign-in yet: a key is sent as a header, or the free trial is used.
- Claude may not pass a file attached to the chat on to a connector; a link always works.
- Files over 10 MB are refused.
- Private, internal and plain-http links are refused, including through redirects.
- An assistant key works only with assistants; the REST API stays on the Scale plan.

Is there an MCP server for invoices?

Can Claude or ChatGPT read an invoice without one?
Yes, if you attach the file. The answer is the model’s own reading. The MCP server adds a dedicated invoice reader, an arithmetic check computed from the invoice’s own figures, and Excel and CSV files.
Is it free?
Without a key there is a free trial of up to 3 documents a day per network address, inside a shared monthly budget. With a paid plan’s AI assistant key, documents count against the plan instead.
What happens to my invoices?
Without a key, the file and its results are deleted 7 days after upload unless you save them to an account. With a key, they are in your workspace like any upload. What you give the assistant also passes through the assistant’s company, under its own terms.
Does it work in Cursor and VS Code?
Yes. Add the URL as a remote HTTP MCP server, with an Authorization header carrying your key if you have one. The agent can send a file from your project as base64.
